In the mid-1980s when VHS camcorders became popular, parents may have grown up with millimetre eight films and their limits of three minutes per reel were suddenly supplied with two hours of uninterrupted shooting on a single VHS tape. A spin off of VHS was called VHS-c format. This was a reduced version of a VHS cassette in a shell of smaller, but using the same size as a full VHS cassette tape - just less of it. The progression of technology, it has been the camcorder. Records became smaller with the advent of video of eight millimeter, so named because it is similar to the film 8 mm width.
